Background ...

In 1998 FEMA funded a Project IMPACT Initiative entitled, Development of HAZUS Earthquake Risk Assessment Capabilities for the San Francisco Bay Area, California.  The purpose of this project was to partner the Geographic Information System professional community with earthquake experts and risk managers from an eleven-county project area and to develop HAZUS earthquake risk assessment capabilities for the San Francisco Bay Area. This activity evolved into the San Francisco Bay Area HAZUS User Group (BAHUG). Today, BAHUG is a public-private partnership involving over a 100 organizations and corporations. The BAHUG is the national model for FEMA's continuing efforts to expand the use of HAZUS and and the rapidly expanding network of HAZUS User Groups across the country.
