Earthquake Disaster
Possible in Montana...
The
magnitude-7 quake in Haiti is a reminder for
Montanans. The next big earthquake that the state's
seismic monitoring equipment picks up could be
centered here, as opposed to in another country said
Mike Stickney, the director of the Earthquake
Studies Office at the Montana Bureau of Mines and
Geology in Butter.
It's
been more than half a century since a damaging
earthquake last struck Montana, killing 29, near
Hebgen Lake. In 2010, the state remains seismically
active, and earthquakes still pose the largest
"single event" natural hazard to Montanans,
according to Montana Disaster and Emergency
Services.
