CAValleyHUG Topics For Discussion
CAValleyHUG
Program issues:
-
How can
HAZUS be used for evacuation planning by local
government,
-
There is a
need to refine building stock for California to replace
the
default data, or at least the study areas, so that this
can be shared by
other users,
-
There are
issues with the values and these need the same treatment
as
the previous item,
-
Work on
essential facilities is of a high interest to the USACE
with
some of this data potential being available at state
agencies that were
not represented in the class (DGS, State Fire Marshall,
CGS, etc.),
USGS, NWS, NOAA, and potentially others, need to be
included with teams
developing HAZUS study areas in California,
-
Develop a
California GIS committee for HAZUS,
-
Develop a
California FIS/NFIP mapping committee for HAZUS.
-
There is a
need to have the FEMA Region IX flood engineers to be
involved in the HUG.
Additional User
issues:
-
Funding for
studies,
-
More HAZUS
courses in California including an introductory course
and
data management course,
-
Use of
academic institutions and graduate students to work on
studies
and developing database information to replace the
default data,
-
Many of the
CAValleyHUG users have an interest in EQ, coastal, and
the
south state studies for flood,
-
The
California State Water Plan that is due in 2009 will
include flood
and may make use of HAZUS.
