Web Site
HAZUS.org operates and maintains the
www.hazus.org web site. This web site is intended to
supplement the FEMA HAZUS web portal. HAZUS.org attempts to
look beyond the direct use of HAZUS to support HAZUS users in
understanding broad disaster management policy and technical issues.
HAZUS User Groups
HAZUS.org supports the operations and activities of HAZUS User
Groups (HUGs) across the country. The structure of the
HAZUS.org IT system, which is owned by HAZUS.org and operated
exclusively for the HAZUS user community, has been designed to
optimize our support to the HUGs. HAZUS.org provides no-cost
web site operations and maintenance, hosted web site support, a
email list server and a state-of-the-art open-source discussion
bulletin board. HAZUS.org will also support the business
operations of HUGs. This support is provided under the
auspices of the HAZUS.org public benefit, 501(c)3 nonprofit status.
These activities are all associated with the trusted HAZUS.org
domain.
HUG Web Sites
HAZUS.org, at no cost, will design, operate and maintain web sites
for any public benefit HAZUS User Group, HUG. HAZUS.org can
also provide, at no cost, any public benefit HUG the ability to
design and maintain their own web site.
HUG Email List
Serve System
HAZUS.org operates a state-of-the-art, open-source, web based email
list serve. This system utilizes "Mailman" for managing
electronic mail discussion and e-newsletter lists. Mailman is
integrated with the web, making it easy for users to manage their
accounts and for list owners to administer their lists. Mailman
supports built-in archiving, automatic bounce processing, content
filtering, digest delivery, spam filters, and more. User
operated HAZUS.org Mailman accounts are provided to public benefit
HAZUS User Groups at no cost.
HAZUS.org Database
HAZUS.org operates the popular open-source MySQL multithreaded,
multi-user SQL database management system on the HAZUS.org server.
HAZUS.org MySQL resources are available to public benefit HUGs.
HAZUS.org Bulletin
Board
To support more effective information sharing throughout the HAZUS
User Community, HAZUS.org operates the phpBB open-source forum
solution on the HAZUS.org server. Millions of people use phpBB
on a daily basis, making it the most widely used open-source
bulletin board system in the world.
HAZUS.org HUG
Chapters
As a public benefit 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation HAZUS.org offers
HAZUS User Groups the ability to establish a "corporate presence" by
operating as a business component, "chapter", of HAZUS.org.
This can be used to obtain a stand-alone HUG checking account, fund
receipts via PayPal and the ability to apply for grant funding as a
public benefit 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation.
